I'm really excited that Netflix is picking up The Killing for a fourth season. Really great casting and the two leads are so so so interesting. Steven Holder is such a fox, and I wanted to figure out how to simplify/caricature his face (first pic). But... the best one came out a few months ago, that i scribbled out right after watching the first two seasons. It remains my favorite. Study of a thing to design is not to be taken lightly; drawing from a few screenshots just doesn't compare when the feel of the series/theme/character is fresh! ... Except he never juts out his hip like that--What was I paying attention to?
Paint what you know? This tall papaya plant is in our small back yard, and I have never tasted its fruit. I imagine our papaya feels bitter existence, smack dab in the simple elements, giving hope to the weeds.
I'm trying to design. My face is something familiar but still foreign if I look closely. I can see why people do 'warm-up' sketches. To observe sometimes daunting but if it's your face you're observing it's less so. Because I'm used to seeing my own face it seems 'easier' but I'm not sure if it really is. There's something to be said about how comfortable we think we are when attempting something. There's no reason I shouldn't attempt anything. Because my face could've been anyone's face, and there are literally billions of iterations of faces, infinite possibilities in drawing medium, not to mention subject matter, approach, format... but I have fun doing it, whatever it happens to be. What a world that I can choose to draw a few shaved monkeys in wigs.
From a recent life drawing session. I suppose if I wasn't on the internet I would be looking at hairy men. The patterns are so fun to draw! Definitely more to explore there. Maybe I should just draw furry animals.... Naaah.
